Let’s scrap.

Nugent is a current member of the U23 national team for the United States and a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. This summer she will be traveling across the east coast to teach at various wrestling clinics and camps. As an older sister, she loves having the opportunity to work with the younger generation of girls as they join the nation’s fastest growing sport!

Women’s Wrestling Resources

Resources that Nugent has compiled over the past six years regarding women’s academic and athletic opportunities within wrestling. As a student at Phillips Academy, Marisol was taught the importance of “knowledge & goodness” and believes that education is a critical tool in the development of women’s wrestling. It is important to provide women academic opportunities within the collegiate wrestling sphere to create a generation of alumni with not only high caliber degrees, but careers. She has been lucky to work alongside women at Division 1 Women’s Wrestling and several other organizations that provide valuable resources and data for the sport.

A Guide to Women’s Collegiate Wrestling

This is a resource guide I put together my senior year of college. Over the past three years, so many girls have contacted me about how to wrestling at the University of North Carolina or schools like it, despite not having a program.

College Programs

D1, D2 and D3 programs are now offering women’s wrestling along with NAIA schools. The NCAA programs will be able to compete in the first sanctioned NCAA tournament in 2026. For now, they compete within the NCWWC.

Insights

NAIA programs can give scholarships and provide academic support.

NAIA programs have their own nationals separate of NCWWC.

Only NCAA programs can compete in the collegiate women’s national tournament as the sport passes away from emerging sports status.

Club Programs

Big universities such as Oklahoma State and Rutgers are currently offering women’s wrestling clubs along with prestigious EIWA universities like Princeton, Columbia and Lehigh. There is a national club wrestling tournament that competes in folkstyle, but the majority of women’s wrestling clubs train freestyle.

Insights

Other schools such as Oregon State University and Columbia University have provided RTC access to female wrestlers from local colleges and universities so that they can pursue their academic and athletic careers.
